Hagfish made the news in spectacular fashion after an accident involving a truckload of live hagfish. The hagfish were packaged in insulated plastic boxes and heading to the airport for export to Korea, when things went sideways. When the truck tried to stop at a road construction site, the giant tubs of hagfish came untethered, and went bouncing down Rte 101 in Oregon. Five cars were damaged, some severely, but there were no serious injuries. It took a long time to clear the road, however, and took the lives of roughly 25,000 hagfish, which were worth over $300,000 to the exporting company. [photos by the Depoe Bay Fire District]
